Mary E. Cain

Ms. Cain is a licensed attorney, admitted by the Supreme Court of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Northern and Central Districts of California.  Ms. Cain's experience includes contract negotiations, arbitration work, and litigation in state and federal courts.


Legal Education

Ms. Cain received her Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from Stanford Law School where she was an editor of the Stanford Law & Policy Review. 

She received the Stanford Public Interest Law Fellowship in 2002. She In addition, Ms. Cain assisted law faculty with publications and class preparation in the fields of Evidence and Land Use while at Stanford. Ms. Cain continues her legal education, attending courses across the nation, including the ABA's International Law conference in 2009. 


Professional Memberships and Service

Ms. Cain is an Active Member of the State  Bar and she has been active in serving her local bar association, the Monterey County Bar Association.  Her service has included

  • Treasurer of the Monterey County Bar Association and
  Chair of its Finance Committee, and service on the

  • Personnel Committee, Salary Review Committee, State Bar Delegates, and the Continuing Legal Education Committees of the MCBA (including service as Chair of CLE Committee).

In the wake of the Big Sur Basin fire in 2008, Ms. Cain donated her services in order to address the needs of displaced residents.  After that experience, Ms. Cain also donated her time to the Disaster Relief and Emergency Legal Services Committee.

Ms. Cain's professional memberships have included:

  • American Bar Association's Section of International Law

  • ABA's Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice: Government Information and Right to Privacy

  • State Bar sections of Business Law, Intellectual Property and Litigation.

In addition to the above, Mary Cain has provided service to the American Red Cross by assisting with donations and serving on the Board of Directors in 2009.
